Requirements and names differ by country and employer. List only what you actually hold, with the year or expiry where relevant.
Executives hire an HR manager to solve people problems that affect the business: hiring too slowly, losing good staff, managing risk and building capability. A resume that lists only HR activities misses the point. Show the business problem, what you did and what changed.
Context shapes the role. HR in a startup means building everything from scratch; in a large organisation it means navigating process and specialists; in a non-profit it means doing a lot with limited budget. State company size, headcount supported and whether you were a generalist or specialist.
Choose a few metrics and report them honestly: time to hire, offer acceptance, early turnover, engagement scores, absence, training completion, cost per hire. Include the starting point and the change, and say what you did to cause it. Be careful with causation and avoid claiming credit for improvements that others drove.
Employee relations and compliance deserve explicit lines. Mention policies you wrote, investigations you ran, disciplinary and grievance processes you managed, and your knowledge of employment law in the jurisdictions you covered. Do this without any identifying detail.
Strong HR managers influence without authority. Describe how you advised senior leaders, coached managers or led change projects such as restructures, new performance systems or pay reviews. Name the HRIS and other tools you use, as well as any analytics you built.
If you manage a team, state its size and how you developed it. Tie professional qualifications to the practice you describe. Keep the resume to two pages at most, lead with a short summary of scope and outcomes, and let the evidence do the persuading.
Use the exact wording from the job description where it is true for you. These terms come up often in this field:
Start with a strong verb, say what you did, and finish with the result. Fill in your real numbers. If you do not have a number, describe what changed instead.
